"Please don't fight these hands that are holding you"

I had a little extra money the other day, so I bought two cd's at the Family Christian Bookstore. I purchased Casting Crowns and Tenth Avenue North. The first you may have heard of, they have been around for quite a while. The second, well, they have a couple of songs that I really love. One of the songs is called By Your Side. This song has pierced my mind and soul. It is sung from God's point of view and it asks you why isn't He enough for you?

Which brings me to my point today. When someone says they love you and will be there for you and want to help you, why do we resist? Why do we think we need to handle everything alone? Why aren't we willing to let someone else help us? Why do we think and feel that if we don't do it ourselves, that everyone will think we are weak? We are weak. We are frail humans that usually mess up most everything we try to fix. If we don't learn to lean on each other as brothers and sisters in Christ, then what is the point of our church family?

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.

This means, that besides us learning to receive help, we need to not judge and learn to give help. If someone comes to you and says that they needs help, most of us shy away of giving someone else the time that we selfishly covet for ourselves and family. I am guilty of this, as is many of you. No matter what situation Jesus was in, or where he was going, if someone asked him to come heal someone, he went, or miraculously, he just took care of the situation. He didn't tell them that he would do it on these terms or that he was too busy, or that he actually was thinking about "how to get out of saying yes." Now, I am not saying that if you are busy or preoccupied with some other opportunity, to say no to someone, but truly, are you that busy you can't pray with someone, or take three hours and paint a bathroom or something?

Here are the words to the song By Your Side by
Songwriters: Donehey, Michael; Ingram, Jason David; Larue, Phillip

Why are you striving these days?
Why are you trying to earn grace?
Why are you crying
Let me lift up your face
Just don't turn away.

Why are you looking for love?
Why are you still searching as if I'm not enough?
To where will you go child?
Tell me where will you run
To where will you run.

'Cause I'll be by your side
Whenever you fall
In the dead of night
Wherever you call
And please don't fight
These hands that are holding you.
My hands are holding you.

Look at these hands and my side.
They swallowed the grave on that night.
When I drank the world's sin
To carry you in
And give you life,
I want to give you life.

And I'll be by your side
Whenever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don't fight
These hands that are holding you.
My hands are holding you.

'Cause I, I love you.
I want you to know
That I, I love you
I'll never let you go.

'Cause I'll be by your side
Whenever you fall
In the dead of night
Whenever you call
And please don't fight
These hands that are holding you.
My hands are holding you.
