Singing Scripture

As Allie was preparing to go to church camp, her friend going with her was telling her that to get to eat, you have to recite Bible verses.  Allie stated that she knew John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life."

I said "Do you know any others?"

She quoted, Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning, God made the heavens and the earth."

I said "You know this one too", and started singing, "Be excellent in what is good, be innocent from evil.  For the God of peace, will soon crush Satan, yes God will crush him underneath your feet."  She smiled started singing with me and said,

"Romans 16:19."

I told her, "See, you know more verses from the Bible than you realize."  She agreed.

I told her that she could quote the Model prayer, or Psalms 23.

Isn't it strange?  I am not sure a lot of us realize how many verses we know at least a part of.  Singing the hymns, worship songs, and children's songs have a lot of benefits, one of them being bringing God's word into our hearts and minds.  When I am in a situation that I am worried, scared  or just wanting to praise God, I turn to songs and scripture.

Remembering God is something he wants.  He wants us to keep Him in the forefront of our minds all the time.  Will that keep us out of trouble?  Maybe.  But I think it helps to calm us.  If you memorize and think about the scriptures, the more you will have the understanding of it.  That is a plus in this world.

Revelation 21:5
And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new " And He said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
