Random Thankfulness

Today I am thankful for the ability to work. I think that having that ability, even if it isn't our favorite thing to do, it it important. Our work ethic says a lot about each of us. I think that some of you are the hardest workers I know. I think that we all work hard at something.

This morning, my husband got called in to work. I say yay!, but only because he never gets overtime any more. Plus it isn't for all day. I am very thankful that he has the ability to work and that there is extra for him to do today.

I am also thankful that we get to go tonight and watch Monroe High School play Wyoming High School in the Football Semi-Regional game at Kings High School. Another Friday Night Lights for us!

I am thankful that my children are doing well in school and caught up in the marching band. Next weekend they will march in the Monroe Christmas Parade, both of them. That excites them both. There again, they are both working on something exciting.

Today seems to be full of random thankfulness. But sometimes, that is a good thing. Being random keeps us fun!

Genesis 2:15 The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

James 1:4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Happy Labor Day!

Hooray! Today is the last day of summer hours. Honestly, I am happy about that. This day is not getting over fast enough either. For the past week I feel like I have been on edge. I don't know why. I can't sit still and I can't concentrate. I honestly think I miss being with my kids. But that is weird because they are in school and then at band practice and football practice. So they wouldn't be home anyway. I am thankful that tomorrow is a half day and then a long weekend.

Labor Day is here and I am appreciative to my company for giving me Monday off. I will be laboring at home with laundry and such, but as for celebrating Labor Day? Well, tomorrow night is a big Friday Night Lights football game, then two more games Saturday morning. Sunday is church and that evening is a get-together with my parents, family and friends. I hope to get to watch the WEBN Fireworks that are put on down on the Ohio River in Cincinnati. They are always a highlight. We turn up the radio, turn down the tv and watch them. So cool.

What does Labor Day mean to you? For me it means the end of summer. I do try to remember and appreciate God for letting me find a job and the abilities I have to do the job. That is always a good thought.

Psalms 90:17 "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands."

Happy Labor Day!

Worry Not!

Ah, technology. I came into the office today and our computers were down. People were taking the news one of two ways. They were either relaxed and trying to get non-computer work done or they were nervous, trying to figure out how to do their job.

I was more in line with the catch up on a few things that I could do without the computer. I had no where to be and I still had the phone to answer. The question of the day is, what did we do before computers? Computers are convenient and they are very useful, but having a hard copy of everything still makes it reassuring that life will go on. Maybe that's why most of us never get rid of the phonebook or our address book. I still have a calendar I hang on the wall.

When the electric was out, we barely had cell phones, no computers and no tv. This morning, we had no computers, and people went into panic mode. I say, slow down, people! No matter what convenience you have, the only one in real control is God. He will carry you through every situation, no matter what.

25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Water, Water, No Where? - July 2, 2009

Crisis alert! Crisis alert! As I pulled into the parking lot of my work this morning, there was a lot of water running down the parking lot to the drains. I looked up and saw a fire truck parked on the road behind the building. “Uh-oh,” I thought. Come to find out, that there is a water main break on the road behind us. So the building manager sends out an email stating the problem and that it will be 6 – 8 hours before it is fixed and the water if off. He is having port-a-johns brought in. That is a good thing, but this also means that the coffee pot isn’t working and that will lead to a bunch of grumpy engineers!

For the most part, everyone is doing okay. A bunch of them took a break and ran to McDonald’s for another cup of coffee. But when the coffee hits their kidneys, it is going to be a mad dash for the “johns”. Yes it is disruptive. Yes it is and would be better if we could leave and not come back until Monday, but there our companies depending on us to be here and open for their needs. So we hold out as long as we can. I am sure there will be those who give up and go home early. There are also those who will just complain about it all day. Then there are those who will see it as a challenge. 2 Timothy 4:5 says, “But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.” Well, maybe this isn’t the same, but we can use the advice just the same no matter the situation.

I know that it will all turn out fine. The water will be restored soon. This is by no means the end of life. It is a hardship we have to endure for just a little while. Just like when the hurricane hit last September. We dealt with that and we survived. This too will pass and we will survive. Just keep your head and do your work.
