Child of Promise

Luke 2:6-7
 6 While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.

What a message in just these two verses.  It is God's promise come true..."she gave birth to her firstborn, a son."  This is the most important verse in the whole Christmas story, for without this part of the verse, how would we know that Jesus was born?  Do you have room in you for Him?  Is there no room in your life for Christ' promises to take root?  Don't shut Him out.  Don't send Him away.  Wrap him in your heart and keep him close.

Read the chorus of this song.  It's a little different than we normally sing at church.

What Child is This?
Words:  William Chatterton Dix
Music:  Sir John Stainer

1. What Child is this who, laid to rest
On Mary's lap is sleeping?
Whom Angels greet with anthems sweet,
While shepherds watch are keeping?
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and Angels sing;
Haste, haste, to bring Him laud,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
2. Why lies He in such mean estate,
Where ox and ass are feeding?
Good Christians, fear, for sinners here
The silent Word is pleading.
Nails, spear shall pierce Him through,
The cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
3. So bring Him incense, gold and myrrh,
Come peasant, king to own Him;
The King of kings salvation brings,
Let loving hearts enthrone Him.
Raise, raise a song on high,
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
The Babe, the Son of Mary.
