As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So my soul pants for You, O God.
I have this application on my Droid that gives me a daily Bible verse. For the month of July, I am going to use this as the verse I will write about. This should make for some very interesting or very boring devotions. I hope I can bring some insight to this with inspiration from God.
So I think this one has been used before. I think it is one of the most poetic verses in the book of Psalm. The imagery of a deer looking for water and panting sounds so much better than an dog panting. Besides, in the Bible, dogs are not looked at as a thing of beauty, but something that tears apart, and begs for food.
The song that goes with this is so pretty. The song is for God and how much the author wants to be with him and worship him. The second verse talks about how Jesus is our brother and friend, but he is our King too. The third verse, what stands out to me is that Jesus is the the reason for the author's joy and "the apple of his eye". I love that part. Here are the words.
As A Deer
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee
(Chorus)
You alone are my strength, my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee
You're my friend and You are my brother
Even though You are a king
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything
I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye
that song is beautiful isn't it?
